Formation Groups
What are formation groups?
Formation groups are a new initiative of the Men’s and Women’s Ministries. Each Men’s or Women’s group will consist of four people who will meet monthly for the purpose of accountability and discipleship. This is a high engagement/high commitment initiative where full participation is necessary from each participant.
What is the goal of formation groups?
The purpose of formation groups, both for those new to Christianity as well as for those who have walked with Christ for many years, is to bring our stated Christian beliefs to bear on our affections, emotions, and desires. As a result, our hope is that our stated beliefs would translate from our heads to our hearts and ultimately to our hands, leading to a change in our attitudes and actions.
In order to do this, Formation Groups will walk through three stages of meetings: biopsy, surgery, and post-op sections. Below is a brief summary of the intent of each section of meetings with a guided program.
Biopsy (Meetings 1-3): examines the state of your heart by taking a look at your story as it relates to the story of the gospel and by taking inventory of your daily and weekly rhythms and influences.
Surgery (Meetings 4-7): helps us gain an understanding of the gospel as it is applied to our affections and desires.
Post-op Rehab (Meetings 8-12): helps us grow as a result of our renewed understanding of the gospel.
Who can participate?
Any official member in good standing may submit an application. Applicants will be selected and placed in a group by the Men’s and Women’s ministry leaders. Non-members will be considered if they commit to the membership process in the spring.
What is the commitment?
Formation groups do not require a large commitment of time. Each group will meet once a month for 2-3 hours and there is some light preparation for each meeting. The commitment we are asking for is for FULL PARTICIPATION. Each participant must attend each monthly meeting and complete the required coursework before each session. Throughout the year, the leadership will check in with each group for support and to ensure meaningful participation from each member.
Why is there an application process?
The application process is meant to ensure that all participants are active members of the church who are committed to Jesus and to living out their faith. The questions are designed to discern the applicant’s faith journey, present commitment to Christ, and a genuine desire to grow in spiritual maturity. If you are not accepted this round, you are welcome to apply again in the next round of formation groups.
Where will the groups meet?
Each group will determine the location and time for each meeting. We encourage in-person meetings in a quiet location to provide for uninterrupted conversation and prayer.
